Declined an Opportunity...

I’m proud of myself today. Proud of a decision I made to turn down an opportunity that I’ve been trying to capture for four years. Sound confusing? Let me explain.I received the honour of being chosen as one of the top 10 speakers in an international speaking competition. I’ve applied four years in a row. I’ve worked on the marketing committee promoting the event and have attended all of the seminars offered by the sponsored company. However, today when I received the news that I was finally awarded a chance to compete for the title of top speaker, I was thrilled but I turned down the request with confidence and self love. Why, you may ask?Actually, it’s because of Brendon Burchard from the Experts Academy! Last March when I attended Brendon’s four day conference in California, I was blown away by how much he inspired and encouraged us to focus in one main way to spread our message. All too often us entrepreneurs have our hands in too many pots. I made a decision to focus my career in one direction and that’s what I’m doing. As much as that involves training the corporate world in personal development and colour strategies, it does not involve being a motivational speaker. Don’t get me wrong…I love speaking to audiences; however, I’d rather be training and educating them in my message. So that being said, I declined with confidence. The extra beauty in this situation is that my best friend, who is also a fantastic speaker and is making a career in speaking, also received the honour of being in the top 10. Now, I can sit in the audience and cheer on a truly motivating friend, Jacquie Hermans. Good luck Jacquie. Go get em!
